Palisades & Eaton Fires

Utilizing Cotality’s Wildfire Risk Score and Wildfire Conflagration Score

On January 7, 2025, in Los Angeles, California, two major wildfires ignited, resulting in immense damage and significant insured losses. These fires have since become known as the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire.

The Palisades Fire began in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood and ultimately caused damage or destruction to nearly 7,000 properties. The Eaton Fire started in Eaton Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains and damaged or destroyed over 6,600 properties, many of which were in Altadena and Pasadena. Combined, these fires resulted in more than $40 billion in insured losses.
